2014 Oxford, UK - Day 2 - Thurs, Aug 14th

Jet lag hit and we slept until 11am!  Jim went down to the Common Room for a cup of coffee and ran into Jack, the Guest Coordinator who invited us to lunch and dinner which Jim accepted.  We just had time to really wake up, eat some fruit then dress to go downstairs for 12:45 lunch.  (pic on right is from the car park and bike stable looking onto the main part of Campion Hall.  Our building is attached on the right, out of sight)

They eat so healthy here and we really do enjoy interacting with the Fathers.   Lunch is cafeteria style with the line into the scullery.  The quiche was delicious as was the salad.  But they serve the salad in an interesting way - one large bowl for the lettuce, a smaller bowl with all the extras that one usually puts in salad, and no dressing!  Always water from a pitcher.

Walked into Oxford downtown to the Visitor's Center on Broad St where I picked up a boatload of brochures on upcoming events.  Strolling around we checked out the stores and restaurants to see what had changed since our last visit.

On the way back to our flat, stopped at the Oxfordshire Central Library where we applied for and got library cards and checked out a DVD. Their inventory of DVDs rivals any US video shop and are 1-3 pounds to check out for a week.

The "Think before you drink" showing amount of sugar in various drinks appeared to be a student project displayed at the library. Jim just shakes his head as I take pics of everything.

Then we did some serious grocery shopping - at Sainsbury's - before heading back to the flat.

After dinner then working on our computers for a bit we went out - remember it's 63 stairs each time we go out and again when we come back - for a pint at Old Tom's Tavern (across the street from Christ Church Cathedral - pic on the right).  Walking back we realized that our bodies were still on US time and since we'd missed breakfast were still hungry.  There is a food truck - McCoy's Express Food - serving mainly mediterranean food so we purchased a large lamb doner with salad (like a gyro but with a chili garlic sauce instead of the cucumber/yoghurt sauce - and the salad was put on top of the meat) to share back at our flat.

Again fell into bed exhausted.
